Czech + Slovak surnames

If you are searching for a Czech or Slovak surname, be sure to try all forms, including masculine and feminine, singular and plural. In some cases, Genealogy Indexer will automatically try many forms for you. This will happen only when you have selected "Czech + Slovak" from the place drop-down menu...

Re: Archives numerisees de Paris

The problem of having to "turn pages" in each tables decennales search result can't be solved with OCR, I think, but manual indexers (not me!) should be able to do it. The problem of having to specify so many search parameters, instead of just a name, for example, should be easily to solve for the p...

Re: 1929 Poland & Danzig Bus Dir?

seraulu1, What exactly did you search for on this site, and for which of the matches returned are you trying to view the image? For example, you searched for "Kalter" and are trying to view the second match in the 1929 directory, image 671. You should be able to click on the link that begins "1929 P...

Re: Archives numerisees de Paris

If you discover typewritten documents in this online collection, please let me know, and we can see whether OCR would be helpful. Unfortunately, for handwritten documents, OCR is likely to be useless, except possibly for a large quantity of documents written by a single person (a single notary with ...

1871 Lwow Address Directory

A large part of this directory (http://www.sbc.katowice.pl/dlibra/docmetadata?id=8636) does not include personal names, but is nonetheless very useful for genealogists, since it contains a correspondence between older house numbers and newer street addresses. House numbers appear frequently in 19th ...

1913 Galicia Business Directory

The website hosting the 1913 Galicia Business Directory is sometimes very slow to display the images, when you try to change the image number. If this happens to you, be patient. Type the image number you want once and wait. After a few minutes (literally), it should be displayed. If you have a lot ...

To decipher abbreviations, check the occupa...

Re: 1929 Poland & Danzig Bus Dir?

Many users encounter this problem with the website that displays the 1929 directory. There were instructions in the Genealogy Indexer Help section explaining how to get around this, but, since it seems that most people do not read the Help, I have changed the links to the 1929 directory to go direct...

Webmasters: get a search box for your site

Webmasters can now incorporate custom Genealogy Indexer search boxes into their own websites. To get the HTML to paste into your site, just perform a search as usual, with {html} appended (or, if you are already including options surrounded by {}, add html to the list of options, as in {d82,d83,html...
