The ship was the Umbria ...they arrived on or about 2 June 1906...Also, there are Chasanofsky's on the ship, but they are not my family. If you search here for "Benbassat," you will find matches in Cyrillic and Latin characters in Bulgarian directories (also, Poland and Mandate Palestine). Unfortunately, we have extremely limited coverage of Spain, currently, and nothing from the 13th-15th centuries.

Heather, There are several places currently or formerly known in Polish as Gąbin (pronounced Gombin). Gumbinnen was the German name of one of these places, in the former East Prussia, now Gusev, Russia. It did have a Jewish community, but I don't know much about it. You are unlikely to find a place of birth on this site, but searching for rachwalowski reveals places in the former Grodno Gubernia where several people with this surname lived.

The first number is the year of birth, the second is the year the person received the appropriate degree.

The heading at the top of the page indicates the type of medical professional listed.
