Gierlasinski Surname

Postby Garlesky » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:14 am

My last name is Garlesky and my ancestors immigrated in 1912.... I found war enlistment records with the name Gierlasienski listed and the stories go that it was changed from that to Garlesky because it was more American. According to a polish contact of mine they suggest that the correct spelling is to drop the "e" before the "n" because the "n" in polish has a "en" sound.

So i have referenced everything but the St. Albans Canadian border crossing list and cannot find any immigration records.... I am trying to figure out how I can track from where in poland did they come from because the two brothers that came across left their parents and some siblings behind.... So i know i have extended family in Poland still...
