Hi everyone, I'm new here and am hopeful to find some answers as to who my grandmother was.

Barbara Krobath was born August 15, 1905 in Vienna, after getting pregnant in 1930 she was disowned by her parents and moved to Graz where she had Augustine (my mother) Jan.2,1931. She gave up her child, moved south of Graz, married & had 2 children, a boy & girl. Her parents soposedly owned a restaurant in Vienna at some time during the war.

I also have a photo of her with her 2 other childern that she sent to my mother some time in the 40's but that is all I have so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

Exactly what information would you like to know? Are you trying to learn the names of Barbara Krobath's parents, siblings, husband, or children? Or the name or location of her parents' restaurant? Or the town "south of Graz" to which she moved? Or something else?

Vienna address and business directories for 1859-1942 can be viewed and manually searched at http://www.digital.wienbibliothek.at/wb ... cture/5311. If you know Barbara's father's name, you might find his residential address, business address, and/or business name. If you do not know Barbara's father's name, you might learn a possible name by finding a Krobath who owned a restaurant.

If you are looking for Austrian vital records, you will probably need to know whether the events occurred before or after 1938, and, if before, the religion(s) of those involved.

For a brief guide to Vienna research, see http://www.wien.gv.at/english/history/a ... stors.html.

If you would like to know where Barbara moved when leaving Graz, you might want to research Meldezettel records from Graz (possibly, Vienna, too, if she was still registered there).

Thank you for all the resources, I'm going to try them in the next while and see if I find anything. All the information I received is from my mother (Barbara's daughter) who had contact with each other when mom was a teen. It was only a letter with a picture asking if mom wanted to meet with her but mom declined. So I'm looking for anything related to Barbara as I want to know who my grandmother was and where she came from.
Thanks again for the help, Tim
