Berlin Jewish Directories 1929, 1931

Post by cbloomquist »

There are two Jewish directories for Berlin from 1929 and 1931. 1929 is available from the Leo Baeck Institute and 1931 is available from the Zentral- and Landesbibliothek Berlin. It would be great to have these searchable!

Thanks for these requests. Regarding the 1929 edition at LBI, the resolution of the online scans is too low to get good OCR accuracy. However, if high-resolution scans were made from the original or photocopies at LBI, they might work.

The 1931 edition at ZLB is already searchable, together with many other Berlin directories in their collection (not specifically Jewish), at http://digital.zlb.de/viewer/sites/coll ... -adresses/. Still, I might add the 1931 here, to enable soundex, wildcard, and other advanced searching.

Thank you for the reply, too bad about the 1929 edition. Would still love to have the 1931 added if resources allow - search functionality at ZLB doesn't seem to be as precise. Thanks for this great site and service, it has been so helpful!

The 1931 edition has been added to the search engine. You can restrict searches to just this source by appending {d916} to your search term, like this: kalter {d916}.
